The City of Dallas wants to make itself as attractive to businesses as possible – which it does both through a call center aimed at answering entrepreneurs’ questions as well as keeping local licensing and permitting to a minimum. Unlike much of the country, Dallas has no special regulations on auto mechanics and a number of other businesses. Of course, the State of Texas and sometimes the federal government regulate what the city often doesn’t – so business owners still need to do their licensing homework. The Dallas economy is diverse and include major companies in the airline, transportation, financial, retail, food, communications and technology sectors. As a center of commerce in one of the largest and most economically significant states in the Union, Dallas has a diverse collection of medium-sized and small businesses.
