The only state in the Union with Napoleonic Code and parishes instead of counties has always been a little different thanks to its French roots. However, today's Louisiana has similar business licenses and permits to other states. In fact, it regulates significantly at the state level while even New Orleans, its largest city, remains light on licenses and permits.
In Louisiana, governments at all levels – federal, state, county and city – need supplies and services. Governments do a significant amount of business with the private sector and can be fantastic clients and customers to businesses in many industries. Any business can apply to do business with any governmental body through a vendor registration process.
